Totally cool gardening

When Juliana and I went to Mt. Vernon we toured their gardens and were amazed by what we saw. One of the things that struck me the most is a type of gardening called Espalier. These fruit trees were really cool. Some day I will have to try it out.

This is the green house heated by a stove and pipes running under the floor tile during the winter. George Washington grew palms and bananas in this greenhouse.

These are espaliered apricot trees along the brick wall.

The herbs lined the garden sunken garden beds. The herbs like less water than the other plants, so when they are watered, the beans and squash get more water while the herbs get less water.

I don't remember what kind of tree this is, but again this is the espaliered style. All the trees (peach, apricot, apple, cherry) all produced fruit.
