Juliana and I are big fans of Anthony Bourdain and his show No Reservations, so naturally when we came to Washington DC, we had to eat where he ate just to experience a little piece of what we were drooling over while watching the show. Last week we went to a Peruvian rotisserie chicken restaurant in Alexandria called El Pollo Rico. Not easy to find, but truly amazing, cooked to perfection, mouth watering bliss.
Last night we followed in his oh so witty footsteps and visited the Main Ave. Fish Market. Here are some pictures of our adventures.
We followed up our culinary adventures with wonderful sausage and duck cassoulet and roasted chicken with rosemary and fresh vegetables, all grown at George Washington's Mt. Vernon estate at the Mt. Vernon Inn. Then for dinner we had Spanish tapas at Jaleo. We had Lanzas de Don Quixote (skewers with chiles, pickles, onions, sardines and olives), piquillo peppers stuffed with goat cheese, and bowl of fresh steamed muscles topped with marinera. We ended a wonderful day with ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery in Crystal City.
I don't know if you can tell, but we really love food. While we were sitting at dinner tonight we reminisced about all the different places we have eaten and wonderful memories that we tie to the food we eat. We look forward to so many memories and meals to come.
The older you are, the faster time goes.
