Shakespeare and Falconry

Now that the hunting season is over, I am left perusing the shelves of the library for books on Falconry. I ran across this book in the library. It includes every reference to birds from all of Shakespeare's works organized by species; owls, hawks, eagles, buzzards, herons, ducks, swans, finches, swallows and so on. I knew, but I guess I didn't realize that Shakespeare was writing in the midst of the fad of falconry in Europe and so there are pages and pages of references to falconry in his works. I was particularly drawn towards the graphics in the book. Here are just a few.

An eagle on a rabbit

Peregrin after a duck

Cadger with falcons

On the hunt

Jesses and Bells

The hood

What a neat book! I liked how they had some of the bird songs written out in music. The images are wonderful. You going to buy that one?
