My Favorite Movies

Day 30 of the 30 days of Blogging Challenge - Movies that you can watch again and again.

There are some really great movies out there that I absolutely love, but there are only a rare few that I can watch over and over and enjoy just as much as the first time I watched it. I just can't get that out of some really great action films, they lose their edge after the first go-round. And in an age where Netflix and Hulu offer thousands of unwatched titles, I think that the idea of the "family library of films" is going out of style. Anyhow there are really only two maybe three films that I can watch over and over and enjoy as much as the first time:

1. The 5th Element - I love the way this film is written, directed and edited. The transitions are smart and the music by Eric Serra is out of this world, refreshing and perfectly matched to the film. Every time I watch this I completely and utterly enjoy it.

2. Shakespeare in Love - A fantastically witty and charming cast, script and costume design. The life of William Shakespeare is colorfully portrayed in all of its tragic comedy beauty.

3. The Four Feathers - This is my all-time favorite film, and though it isn't quite as good watching it over and over as it was the first time, I still enjoy it and put it in to play occasionally. I love the story and the cinematography.

4. I have to give an honorable mention to Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They are wonderful films, but it is such an investment of time to watch them. I spent many, many a day in High School watching Star Wars while doing my homework. I had the characters and lines memorized down to the stand-ins for the extras. I know, a bit over the top, but that's what you do when you're a teenager.

So, what are your favorite films? Can you watch them over and over? Or are they just one time experiences?
